Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former Indian cricketer and Odisha-born Pragyan Ojha as the chairperson of its Men’s Selection Committee.

The decision was taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) during a meeting held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. Ojha was selected for the position based on his seniority in terms of Test appearances.

The CAC, comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, also appointed Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra and Ramesh Powar as members of the selection committee.

Born in Bhubaneswar, Ojha represented India in 24 Test matches, claiming 113 wickets. He also featured in 18 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), taking 21 wickets, and six Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), picking up 10 wickets.

At the Indian Premier League (IPL) level, Ojha played for the Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians. He became the first Indian spinner to win the IPL Purple Cap in 2010 after claiming 21 wickets during the season.

Ojha announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on February 21, 2020. He has since been associated with the BCCI’s senior men’s national selection committee and took charge as interim chief selector.

He succeeds Ajit Agarkar, whose tenure as chairperson of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee officially ended on October 4, 2026.

Appointed in July 2023, Agarkar led the selection panel during a successful period for Indian cricket. Under his tenure, India won three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles and back-to-back gold medals at the Asian Games.
