According to reports, the jumbos had entered into Sri Aurobindo Srikhetra Ashram under Tangi area and moved towards the farm in search of food. However, they came in contact with a live wire while trying to pull it down.

I rushed to the field after hearing loud voices of the elephants only to find that they were lying on the ground. They died after some time, an employee of the ashram said.

“The elephants had entered into the ashram where they pulled an electric wire. The wire was connected to provide light to that portion of the land. While they were pulling the wire, the pachyderms got electric shocks and died,” Sudarsan Patra, DFO, Cuttack said.

The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem.
