US-based organisation donates nearly Rs 50 lakh to Odisha CMRF

Bhubaneswar: A US-based organization donated a generous amount to the tune of Rs 48.89 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to help the state fight the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to an official press release, ‘Our Biswas', which is managed by an Odia woman named Joyasree Mahanti, has been working in different parts of Odisha since 2008 for the empowerment of women.

‘Our Biswas’ provides economic support to women and girls living in abject poverty around the world.

The organization has donated USD 68,000 – Rs 49.89 lakh approximately – to the Odisha CMRF, Additional Chief Secretary Sanjeev Chopra said.

"Because of the timely decisions and appropriate action, Covid situation in Odisha is within control," Mahanti said.

Odisha on Wednesday reported 8,399 new coronavirus cases.
