Bhubaneswar: A woman was allegedly disrobed and thrashed in public by her brother-in-law over land dispute in Odisha’s Bhadrak district recently.

The incident took place at Dobala panchayat under Dhamnagar block in Bhadrak. A purported video of the incident went viral in social media.

According to the villagers, Narottam Barik, a differently-abled person of Sodha village under Dobala panchayat, has been engaged in a dispute with his younger brother Abhimanyu Barik over sharing of their ancestral landed properties for last several days.

Abhimanyu allegedly disrobed Narottam’s wife and thrashed her in public after tying her to a pole over the land dispute on February 11 (Sunday). Abhimanyu’s wife and other members of his family reportedly assisted him in the inhuman act, sources said.

The victim had sustained grievous injuries in the incident and was rushed to a nearby hospital by the villagers, sources added.

The victim had lodged a complaint in this regard with Dhamnagar police. However, the cops are yet to take any action against the accused, alleged the victim.
