Cancer-causing formalin detected in fishes in Odisha's Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Examination of fish samples collected from Odisha's Sambalpur today revealed presence of cancer-causing formalin in them, an official said.

According to reports, formalin was detected in two fishes collected from Kuluthakani here by a team comprising officials of Fisheries Department and Sambalpur Municipal Corporation.

The fishes will be sent to Bhubaneswar for further examination, the official added.

Notably, the team this morning conducted raids at several fish markets in Ainthapali, Budharaja and Govindatala here to ascertain presence of formalin in fishes sold in the markets.

Earlier on July 13, presence of formalin was found in saltwater Pomfret fish samples collected from Unit-IV fish market in Bhubaneswar.
