Bhubaneswar: Cold wave conditions continued to grip Odisha with the mercury dropped below 10 degree Celsius in many places yesterday night.

Phulbani recorded the lowest temperature at 3.5 degree Celsius on Friday night. The interior parts of the state shivered under intense cold in the past few days.

According to MeT, the condition will continue in the next four days. The minimum temperature is likely to fall by 2 degree Celsius in interior Odisha. Many places in coastal parts of the state may record 10 degree Celsius.

The trough of low at mean sea level over South Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal with an embedded cyclonic circulation extending upto 3.1 km above mean sea level persists. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to develop over southeast Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours, the IMD said.

However, there will be no effect on Odisha due to predicted low pressure. The cold wave conditions are likely to persist in the next one week. The weather will remain dry and people will experience intense cold from evening onwards.

The minimum temperature was recorded below 10 degree Celsius in 13 places in Odisha. Apart from Phulbani, Daringbadi recorded 4 degree Celsius, Sundergarh 7 degree Celsius, Hirakud 7.2 degree Celsius, Bhawanipatna 7.5 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda 7.5 degree Celsius, Keonjhar 7.9 degree Celsius, Sambalpur 8.8 degree Celsius, Sonepur, Angul and Koraput 9 degree Celsius, Baripada 9.2 degree Celsius and Balasore recorded 9.5 degree Celsius.

Similarly, Balangir, Titilagarh and Dhenkanal recorded 10 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature in Bhubaneswar dropped to 10.4 degree Celsius. Cuttack and Chandbali recorded 11 degree Celsius, Talcher 11.5 degree Celsius, Malkangiri 13 degree Celsius, Puri 14.3 degree Celsius and Gopalpur 14.6 degree Celsius.
