Bhubaneswar: After a brief break, the cold wave returned to Odisha with eight places recorded temperature below 10 degree Celsius.

Phulbani shivered at 3.5 degree Celsius, the lowest temperature recorded in the tribal interior district on Sunday night.

While the mercury rose in the past few days, people suddenly experienced intense cold especially in interior parts of the State. The temperature dropped by 2 to 4 degree Celsius in several places.

Along with Phulbani, seven other cities recorded below 10 degree Celsius last night. While Angul had 8 degree C, Jharsuguda 8.5 degree C, Keonjhar 8.9 degree C, Sambalpur 9.6 degree C, Sundergarh 7.5 degree C, Hirakud 7.6 degree C and the lowest temperature in Daringbadi was 7 degree C.

The minimum temperature in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Gopalpur and Puri remained unchanged. The conditions are likely to continue till February 2, Bhubaneswar MeT predicted.

According to Bhubaneswar MeT director Sharat Sahoo, the temperature had risen in Odisha due to west wind effect in Delhi. However, the cold conditions made a comeback here after the west wind slowed down and temperature dropped across the country.

People will experience cold in the night. There will be no change of temperature during day time. The coastal parts of the state will witness dense fog with poor visibility upto 500 metre. The cold conditions will continue in Phulbani, Angul, Dhenkanal and Koraput districts. However, the temperature will again rise from February 3, Sahoo said.
