Brahmapur: After his daughter levelled serious allegations against him in a video and allegedly attempted suicide, police in Ganjam district have arrested a man.
The accused, identified as Subash Mishra, was arrested by Nimakhandi police and later produced before a court.
According to reports, the woman, a native of the Digapahandi area, had been married for around one and a half years and was residing at her in-laws’ house in Basudev Nagar. On Thursday, she allegedly attempted suicide by pouring petrol on herself. She was initially admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur and later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
Prior to the incident, the woman had reportedly recorded and shared a video on social media in which she made serious allegations against her father. She accused him of sexually abusing her on multiple occasions and forcing her into prostitution.
Acting on the video, police initiated an investigation into the matter.
During the probe, police seized mobile phones belonging to both the woman and the accused and collected digital evidence, including chat records. Officials said the arrest was made after preliminary evidence was gathered.
The accused, however, has denied the allegations, claiming he has been falsely implicated and asserting the truth will emerge following a detailed investigation.
Meanwhile, the woman’s mother and other family members have also refuted the allegations, terming them baseless and alleging she may have been influenced by others.
Police said further investigation is underway to verify the claims and ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the case. Additional Superintendent of Police, Brahmapur, Alok Jena, confirmed the matter is being probed in detail.
