Nayagarh: In what could be termed as medical negligence, a doctor cut the ureter of a woman while performing tubectomy on her at Daspalla Community Health Centre (CHC) in Nayagarh district yesterday.

The doctor, however, has confessed to his mistake.

Sources said a woman of Ward-16 in Daspalla NAC was admitted to the CHC yesterday for undergoing tubectomy. On completion of the surgery, doctor Naba Kumar Sahu implanted an artificial ureter in her body. When her family members asked about it, the doctor confessed that he cut the ureter of the patient by mistake during the surgery.

Angry over this, the family and relatives of the woman created a ruckus in the hospital and asked the doctor concerned to bear all medical expense of the woman. Later, the family brought the matter to the notice of police.

The situation further worsened after the doctor refused to discharge the woman from the hospital. The irate family members and relative blocked NH-57 near the CHC. They withdrew the road blockade after police reached the spot and pacified them.

As per latest reports, the woman was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further treatment.
