Angul: An elderly woman sustained injuries after allegedly being hit by a bullet during firing practice by policemen at the Police Training College in Odisha's Angul district today.

The victim, identified as Badani Mishra (65) of nearby Saradhapur village, has been admitted to the Angul district headquarters hospital in a critical condition.

According to family sources, the incident took place around 7.30 am this morning while firing practice of jawans was going on at the firing range near the village.

A bullet, suspected to be a mistargeted one, reportedly hit the wall of the woman's house and further struck her chest injuring her grievously.

Hearing the woman's screams, her family members rescued her and admitted her to the district headquarters hospital. Her condition is stated to be stable now, sources said.

Police have started investigation into the incident.
