Bhubaneswar: Noted Odia journalist, historian and cine critic Surya Deo was conferred the ‘Best Book on Cinema’ awards today for his book ‘Kali Paine Kalira Cinema’ during 68th National Film Awards for the Year 2020.

The book authored by Deo has been published by Pakshighar Prakasanee from Odisha, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) announced.

“Certificate of Merit for the Best Book on Cinema also known as Special Mention goes to Odisha’s Surya Deo,” the I&B Ministry spokesperson said.

It is pertinent to mention, Deo has individually preserved the legacy of more than 85-year old Odia film industry through his writings and literary works. He is better known as an amazing archivist of Odia films and a living encyclopaedia on Odia cinema as well.

In a committed manner, the cine critic Deo strived for over two decades for his documentation on Odia cinema, which drew attention of the public in recent years.
