Balangir: The police have launched an investigation into the death of a 14-year-old girl in Tusura police station limits of Balangir district after recovering handwritten notes that reportedly refer to alleged blackmail linked to a relationship.

According to sources, the girl, a resident of the Gudvela Police Beat House area, was found dead at her home by family members. Tusura Police reached the spot, recovered the body and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

During the investigation, police reportedly recovered handwritten notes containing the names and mobile phone numbers of two youths, identified as Pintu Behera of Jamut and Mukesh Rajput, along with the name and contact details of a young woman.

One of the notes reportedly refers to alleged blackmail by Mukesh Rajput over the girl's relationship with him. Other notes are said to contain affectionate messages addressed to her parents.

There are also allegations some local youths had been passing comments at the girl and subjecting her to mental harassment. However, these claims are yet to be independently established, and police are investigating all possible angles.

The contents of the recovered notes are expected to form part of the investigation as officers examine the circumstances leading to the girl's death and verify the allegations against the individuals named in them.

Tusura police station officer-in-charge Manoj Pradhan said a case had been registered and an investigation was underway based on the family's complaint and the handwritten notes recovered from the spot. He added the exact cause and circumstances of the incident remained unclear.

The family has urged police to identify those allegedly responsible for harassing and blackmailing the girl and take appropriate legal action.

Police have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the case.
