Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has declared the Odia film ‘Meher Munda’, directed by noted filmmaker Nikunja Hota, tax-free in the state.

The Chief Minister on Tuesday approved the proposal, recognising the film’s cultural and social significance.

Released on May 15, 2026, ‘Meher Munda’ is based on the lives, struggles, resilience, and achievements of Odisha’s handloom weaver community. The film showcases the state’s rich traditional heritage and craftsmanship, while portraying the realities faced by artisans.

Officials said the decision to grant tax exemption aims to promote and encourage films that highlight Odisha’s cultural legacy and bring attention to the contributions of local communities.

The move is expected to make the film more accessible to audiences and provide a boost to the regional film industry.
