Bhubaneswar: A 25-year-old trainee mining engineer was killed after an unidentified truck allegedly hit his motorcycle on the Tomka-Mangalpur road in Odisha’s Jajpur district late last night.

The accident occurred near Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) Township under Kaliapani police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Abinash Panigrahi, who was working as a trainee engineer with Maheshwari Mining Company.

As per reports, Abinash was staying at an MMPL mess near Mahavir Bazaar in Kalia Pani, around two kilometres from the mine. He was travelling to the mine on his newly purchased Bullet motorcycle to attend his C-shift duty when an unidentified truck allegedly hit him and fled the spot.

Despite wearing a helmet, Abinash sustained severe chest injuries in the mishap. Police rescued him in an unconscious and motionless condition and rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Following a complaint lodged by his father, Prataprudra Panigrahi, who works in the Balani-Kiriburu area of Keonjhar district, Kaliapani police registered a case (No. 107/26) and launched an investigation.

The deceased hailed from Ahiyas village in Jajpur district. The cops are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and efforts are underway to establish the identity of the truck involved.
