Express train hits JCB at level crossing in Odisha's Jajpur

Jajpur: An express train hit a JCB excavator at a level crossing near Haridaspur railway station in Odisha's Jajpur district around 10.15 am today.
While the excavator was severely damaged, at least four passengers of 22878 Ernakulam-Howrah Antyodaya Express sustained injuries after the mishap, reports said.
The JCB developed technical snag while passing a manned level crossing between Haridaspur and New Garhmadhupur railway stations in the district and got stuck at the spot.
Realising the movement of the train towards the level crossing, the driver of the excavator immediately alighted from it and went away from the spot, reports added.
The pantograph of the train engine has been broken in the collision. The overhead wire and the masts have been damaged as well. A diesel engine has been sent to bring the train, sources said
While only down line has been temporarily held up, up and middle line are free for train movement, sources added.
On the other hand, Gateman Jashobanta Swain has been suspended by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Khurda Road for dereliction of duty (as per prima facie enquiry findings). The official has ordered initiation of disciplinary proceedings.
