Former Minister Arun Jaitley passes away

New Delhi: Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who was put on life support at AIIMS here, passed away today.

Jaitley was put on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) support, which are used for patients whose lungs and heart are incapable of operating on their own.

"It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Shri Arun Jaitely, Hon'ble  Member of Parliament and Former Finance minister, Government of India at 12:07 pm on Aug 24, 2019." said a press release by AIIMS, New Delhi

He was hospitalised on August 9 after he complained of uneasiness and weakness. Owing to his health condition, Jaitley had opted out of contesting the elections this year as well as taking up ministerial role.
