Four Padma Shri, as many National Awards for Odias in 2017

Bhubaneswar: It's been a glorious year for Odisha with numerous awards and crowns being conferred on people from the state in various fields. Though all accolades have a priceless charm of their own, Padma Shri and National Awards stand out for their prestigious status and Odias brought home four Padma Shri and four National Awards this year.

Here's remembering and flaunting the caps of pride once again for those who brought us these distinguished awards this year:

PADMA SHRI

Sadhu Meher- The national award-winning actor, director and producer, Sadhu Meher was conferred with the Padma Shri for his contribution in the field of cinema.

Jitendra Haripal- Popular for his cult song 'Rangabati', Jitendra Haripal was awarded the Padma Shri for his priceless contribution in music.

Aruna Mohanty- Gracious Odissi dancer-choreographer-guru Aruna Mohanty, was the recipient of Padma Shri. She's one of Odisha's legendary Odissi dancers and is famous for her innovative choreographies.

Dr Mukut Minz - Odisha born transplant surgeon and former professor at an institute in Chandigarh, was awarded the Padma Shri in the field of medicine.

NATIONAL AWARDS

Shibu Prusty - He won national award for his Odia documentary feature film 'The Lord of the Universe' in arts/culture film category. The 55-minute documentary shows aspects of Jagannath culture and the universal truth.

Lipika Singh Darai - She won a national award in the non-feature film category for the best educational movie, 'The Waterfall'. This movie was produced by Syed Sultan Ahmed.

Nila Madhab Panda- Nila Madhab Panda's movie 'Kadvi Hawa' starring Sanjay Mishra, Ranvir Shorey and Tillotama Shome won a special mention award. This movie portrays the effects of climate change on the lives of farmers.

Sankhajeet De - Sankhajeet's 'Samayara Chhaire' (In the shadow of time), won the national award for Best Arts/Culture film. It is 190-minute long documentary exploring the journey of 'Ravana Chhaya', the shadow puppet form practised in Odisha.
