Hirakud dam to release season’s 1st flood water tomorrow

Bhubaneswar:  While incessant rain during the last couple of days has triggered flood-like situation in several districts across the state, Hirakud dam authorities will release the first floodwater of the season tomorrow.

As the water level of the reservoir has increased due to heavy rain in the upper catchment of Mahanadi river, the dam authorities will release the season’s first floodwater anytime after 11 AM tommrow, said an official.

Currently, the water level of the reservoir stands at 616.87 feet as against highest level of 630 feet. Currently, around 80,491 cusecs of water is entering into the dam per second while 18,519 cusec water is being released from it.

Last year, the Hirakud Dam authorities had released first flood water from the dam on July 24 when the water level of the reservoir stood at 618 feet.
