Bhubaneswar: A 45-year-old man reportedly attempted self-immolation over domestic discord in the Odisha capital here today.

The man, identified as Susanta Nayak of Kedar Palli slum, sustained severe burn injuries in the incident.

As per reports, Nayak set himself on fire after pouring petrol on him at Bapuji Nagar market in the capital city in the evening.

The locals rescued Nayak and rushed him to the Capital Hospital. He was later shifted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar after his condition deteriorated.

Nayak had opted for second marriage some days ago. However, his second wife reportedly left him following some dispute around 10 days ago.

“Susanta was under severe mental pressure and he was roaming here and there in an inebriated state for the last 10 days. He set himself on fire in a suicide bid today,” said Nayak’s mother Sulochana.
