Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested an absconding Ama Bus driver in connection with a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist near Satsang Vihar along NH-16 on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Ashwini Kumar, was apprehended by the Sahid Nagar Police Station after investigators gathered sufficient evidence linking him to the incident. Police said the driver had been on the run since the mishap.

Rash driving blamed for deadly Satsang Vihar accident

According to officials, the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving, with the Ama Bus allegedly travelling at high speed when it rammed into the motorcycle from behind.

The incident took place on National Highway 16 near Satsang Vihar on Sunday afternoon. The victim was reportedly travelling from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar when the collision occurred, leaving him critically injured.

Eyewitnesses said the bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Locals soon gathered at the spot and staged a road blockade, demanding action against the accused.

Officials from Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), which operates the Ama Bus service, rushed to the scene and shifted the injured motorcyclist to a nearby hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival.

Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
