Bhubaneswar, June 25: The Odisha government on Thursday announced the winners of the 35th Odisha State Film Awards for 2023 and the 36th Odisha State Film Awards for 2024, recognizing outstanding contributions to Odia cinema across a wide range of categories.

The prestigious awards will be presented at a special ceremony scheduled to be held at the State Convention Centre in Bhubaneswar at 5 pm on Friday.

For the 35th Odisha State Film Awards (2023), veteran filmmaker Shyamalendu Bhattacharya has been selected for the coveted Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami Puraskar for his lifetime contribution to Odia cinema.

The award for Best Film was jointly conferred on Pushkara and My Sweet Housewife, while Peenakee Singh and Sisir Kumar Sahu were named Best Directors for My Sweet Housewife. Harihar Mohapatra won the Best Lead Actor award for Dho Re Babu Dho, while Naina Dash (My Sweet Housewife) and Supriya Nayak (Pushkara) shared the Best Lead Actress honour.

Among other major winners, Choudhury Jay Prakash Das received the Best Supporting Actor award for Phalguna Chaitra, while Suryamayee Mohapatra was named Best Supporting Actress for Delivery Boy. Mana Museum emerged as a notable winner, securing awards for screenplay and music direction.

For the 36th Odisha State Film Awards (2024), noted actress Namrata Das (Dolly) has been selected for the Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami Puraskar.

The Best Film award went to Ashrama, while Ashok Pati was named Best Director for Pabar. Popular actor Babusan Mohanty won the Best Lead Actor award for his performance in Pabar, while Debjani Deghuriya was adjudged Best Lead Actress for Bhagia Bharija.

Other major winners included Sukant Rath (Trikanya) as Best Supporting Actor, Lipsa Mishra (Kemiti Ye Samparka) as Best Supporting Actress, and Hara Rath (Vote) as Best Actor in a Negative Role.

The awards also honoured achievements in cinematography, music, screenplay, editing, costume design, choreography, documentary filmmaking, educational films, children's films and film literature.

Among special recognitions, Samarpita Dash received the Special Jury Award for Ei Akash Tale in the 2023 awards, while Sona Mallick and Harihar Mohapatra shared the Special Jury Award for Aabha and Bhagia Bharija respectively in the 2024 edition.

The annual Odisha State Film Awards are considered the highest recognition for excellence in Odia cinema and celebrate artistic achievements across the state's vibrant film industry. The awards ceremony is expected to be attended by eminent personalities from the film fraternity, government officials and cinema enthusiasts.
