Bhubaneswar: The redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station has entered a significant phase, with the newly constructed air concourse now opened for passengers. The facility connects the Master Canteen side with the Cuttack Road side, enabling seamless movement across platforms without obstruction.

With the commissioning of the air concourse, passengers can now move easily from one platform to another using modern infrastructure. The facility is equipped with airport-like amenities, including lifts and escalators linking platforms to the concourse. Ticket booking counters and vending machines have also been installed to improve convenience.

The first phase of redevelopment on both the eastern and western sides of the station has been completed, and several facilities have already been made operational. These include parts of the concourse, toilets, and lifts. A high-level driveway on the western side near the Master Canteen was opened on March 24. Entry and exit zones on both ground and upper levels are also functional.

Passenger amenities such as dedicated movement areas, separate entry and exit points, baggage security check zones, information centres, food plazas, and waiting areas have been completed. Work on platform roofing, expansion of foot overbridges, and integrated passenger management systems is progressing.

According to East Coast Railway General Manager Parameshwar Funkwal, the entire redevelopment project is targeted for completion by the end of 2026.

The upgraded station is being designed to meet world-class standards, with the capacity to handle around 1.43 lakh passengers daily. Arrangements are in place to facilitate the departure of approximately 77,581 passengers per day.

The main station building, planned as an 11-storey structure, has completed the ground floor along with four floors in the first phase. The remaining seven floors will be constructed in the second phase. On the eastern side, plans are in place to build two additional structures with multiple floors.

Meanwhile, enhanced facilities have also been introduced for loco pilots, assistant loco pilots, and guards. The crew lobby now offers modern amenities, including air-conditioned restrooms, comfortable bedding, lounges, and recreational options such as television, reading rooms, and fitness equipment.
