Angul: A youth has been arrested by Nalco Nagar police for allegedly blackmailing his former girlfriend by threatening to circulate intimate photos and videos of their past relationship on social media.

He also reportedly demanded ₹50,000 from the girl and assaulted her after the relationship ended.

According to police, the accused, a 19-year-old boy, was in a relationship with the girl. During their time together, the accused allegedly recorded intimate photos and videos without her consent.

After their relationship turned sour and the girl distanced herself, she began working as a diploma apprentice at the Nalco Smelter Plant and was staying in a rented house in Kulad village. The accused allegedly barged into her rented house, physically assaulted her, and pressured her to rekindle the relationship.

He reportedly threatened to make their private photos and videos viral and demanded ₹50,000. The woman then approached Nalco Nagar police and lodged a formal complaint.

Acting on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and tracked the accused to Hirakud, from where he was arrested.

He is currently being interrogated at Nalco Nagar police station and will be produced in court, police sources said.
