Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has asked Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania to initiate stern action against the culprits in connection with the Balianta mob lynching case.

Majhi spoke to the DGP and directed him to conduct a detailed probe into the alleged mob lynching case, said the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in a statement.

The Chief Minister has also asked the DGP to take the necessary steps to check similar incidents in future.

“Majhi has expressed grief over the mob lynching incident and asked the Odisha Police to take appropriate measures in this regard,” added the CMO.

The Chief Minister also spoke to Odisha State Commission for Women (SCW) chairperson Shovana Mohanty. The SCW chairperson will visit Balianta tomorrow and collect detailed information regarding the incident.

As per reports, a youth was beaten to death by some people after he allegedly tried to sexually assault two women at Balianta, located on the outskirts of the Odisha capital on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Swain of Adaspur area. Swain was serving as a constable at Government Railway Police (GRP), reports said.

The police have launched a probe into the incident and arrested four persons in connection with the incident.
