Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a Bengali woman inside a hotel in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha.

The accused has been identified as Jayanta Kumar Nayak, a resident of Shirapur under the Soro police jurisdiction in the Balasore district.

According to police sources, the victim, hailing from the Girish Park area of Kolkata, had been staying with her husband at a hotel in the GA Colony of Bharatpur for the past four months.

Taking advantage of her husband's temporary absence, the accused, Jayanta, managed to win the woman's trust and gained entry into her hotel room. Once inside, he reportedly grabbed her forcefully and attempted to rape her.

Police action

Following the traumatic ordeal, a formal complaint was lodged at the Bharatpur Police Station. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the accused. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
