Bhubaneswar: In a key development following the Assembly election results in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party has appointed senior leaders to oversee the process of electing its legislative party leader.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been designated as the Central Observer, while Mohan Charan Majhi, the Chief Minister of Odisha, will serve as the Central Co-Observer.
The new West Bengal CM will be sworn in on 9th May. The Legislature Party meeting is expected to be held shortly, where elected MLAs will choose their leader under the supervision of the appointed observers.
The move comes as the BJP prepares to form the next government in West Bengal after securing a decisive mandate in the Assembly elections. The party has crossed the two-thirds majority mark, ending the 15-year rule of the All India Trinamool Congress in the state.
According to the results declared by the Election Commission of India, counting has been completed for 293 constituencies. Polling in the Falta Assembly seat in South 24 Parganas district will be held again on May 21, with the result scheduled for May 24.
The BJP has emerged as the dominant force, winning 206 of the 293 declared seats. The Trinamool Congress secured 81 seats, while the Indian National Congress managed two seats. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) won one seat, along with one seat each for the All India Secular Front and the Aam Janata Unnayan Party.
