Cuttack: A Class VII student allegedly died by suicide after facing severe harassment at his school in the Narsinghpur area of Odisha's Cuttack district. The boy’s family has lodged a complaint at Narsinghpur police station, accusing members of the school committee of subjecting him to mental torture.

The deceased has been identified as Debashish Das, a 15-year-old student of Shankarsan High School at Patanda. He was the son of Babul Das from Neelakanthpur village.

According to the complaint filed by the boy’s mother, Debashish and his classmates had allegedly broken a CCTV camera installed in their classroom and thrown it into a nearby pond. Following the incident, the school authorities called the student and his mother to the school.

The complaint stated that the boy was allegedly scolded and humiliated in the presence of the school committee members.

The family has alleged that Debashish could not bear the humiliation and harassment at the school. After returning home, he reportedly consumed poison and died.

Police have started an investigation into the matter.
