Nuapada: Nuapada Police have arrested a constable for allegedly cheating a person of Rs 2 lakh by promising to secure him a government job. The accused, identified as Jogendra Bag (39), was working as a Constable at Lakhna Police Station.

According to police, a resident of Dangargaon under Sinapali police station lodged a complaint on September 11, alleging that Bag had taken Rs 2 lakh from him after promising to arrange a government job.

During the investigation, police found that the money had been deposited into the accused's State Bank of India (SBI) account on January 21, 2026.

The complainant alleged that despite receiving the money, Bag neither arranged the promised job nor returned the amount. Repeated requests for repayment allegedly went unheeded, following which the complaint was lodged.

Based on the investigation and evidence collected in the case, police registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Bag was arrested at around 2:10 pm on September 12 and subsequently forwarded to court in accordance with the law.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
