Bhubaneswar: The Cyber police in Odisha’s Sundargarh have arrested a couple from Balasore district for allegedly duping an investor of Rs 1.26 crore by promising to double his investment within a specified period.

The accused have been identified as Abinash Grahacharya and his wife Indulekha Ojha, residents of Balasore district.

According to the police, the couple allegedly floated a fake entity under the name ‘My Digital Locker’ and lured people to invest money by promising attractive returns, including doubling their investments within a fixed period.

A resident of Rangadhipa under Sundargarh Town Police Station, identified as Prashant Naik, reportedly fell into the trap and invested Rs 1,26,34,000 in the scheme. However, he later realised that the investment platform was fraudulent and approached the Sundargarh Cyber Police with a complaint.

Following the complaint, the Cyber police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the course of the probe, the police traced and arrested the accused couple from Balasore.

A case has been registered against the two accused under Sections 318(2), 318(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). They were subsequently produced before a court.

The police have also reportedly frozen the website and bank accounts linked to the alleged fraudulent investment operation as part of the investigation. Further investigation is underway.
