Shocking twist in Nirakarpur railway station ‘kidnapping’ case

Nirakarpur: In a startling breakthrough, police have uncovered the truth behind the alleged kidnapping of a four-month-old baby boy from Nirakarpur railway station in Odisha’s Khordha district.

The child’s own father, who had initially approached police in tears claiming his son had been abducted, has now been identified as the main conspirator in the crime.

Father plotted to stay away from child born out of relationship with his wife's sister

According to police, the accused, Prashant Kumar Pradhan of Kalamatia village under Ranpur police limits in Nayagarh district, was already married but had been living in Chennai with his sister-in-law. The two reportedly had a child together.

Police said Prashant had distanced himself from his first wife in the village and was neither visiting her nor providing financial support. In a bid to get rid of the infant born from his second relationship, he allegedly hatched a sinister plan.

Child handed over to first wife at midnight

On the night of April 7, Prashant reportedly arrived from Chennai and stayed with the baby and the child’s mother at Platform No. 3 of Nirakarpur railway station in Khordha district.

Around 12:30 am, taking advantage of the woman being asleep, he allegedly called his first wife to the station and secretly handed over the infant to her. He then created a false scene, claiming that the baby had been stolen, and lodged a complaint with the police.

Police crack case after spotting contradictions

Taking the complaint seriously, Nirakarpur Railway Police launched an immediate investigation. During questioning, officers noticed inconsistencies in Prashant’s statements, which raised suspicion.

Under sustained interrogation, Prashant eventually confessed to orchestrating the fake kidnapping.

Baby rescued in Nayagarh, accused sent to court

A police team led by Railway Police ASI Dilip Kumar Sahu conducted a raid at Kalamatia village in Ranpur and successfully rescued the infant. Prashant’s first wife was also arrested for her role in the conspiracy.

Police said Prashant will be produced before the court today. The sensational case has sparked widespread discussion in the local area.
