Bhubaneswar: A fresh low pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and north Odisha coasts around August 29, according to the latest weather forecast.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal is currently extending over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-north Odisha coasts. The system is located between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level and is tilting southwestwards with height.

Under the influence of this circulation, a low pressure area is likely to develop over the same region around August 29.

Meanwhile, several parts of Odisha are expected to receive heavy rainfall today. The weather office has issued an orange warning for Baleshwar and Mayurbhanj, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places.

A yellow warning has been issued for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput and Gajapati districts. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in these areas.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds, with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph, are also likely at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.
