Berhampur: Issuing a stern warning against obscenity in Danda Nach, the Ganjam district administration on Thursday reiterated strict action against organisers who violate the prescribed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

The administration had earlier introduced the SOP to regulate the conduct of the traditional folk performance, with the aim of curbing obscenity and preserving its cultural and spiritual essence.

However, a recent violation was reported in Chhatrapur town, prompting police to register a case against five organisers. The Chhatrapur Tehsildar has also issued show-cause notices to those involved.

Despite sustained awareness campaigns, officials said instances of obscenity in Danda Nach have not been completely eliminated in Ganjam district.

Authorities expressed concern such practices are detrimental to the development of a healthy and aware society, and stressed the need for strict adherence to the guidelines.
