Berhampur: In a shocking incident, a man was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified miscreants inside his residence at Singabadi village under Golanthara police limits in Odisha's Ganjam district on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as 47-year-old Dillip Kumar Patra. The brutal nature of the crime has left the local community in deep shock.

According to reports, Dillip had been living alone in the village after separating from his wife a few months ago. His siblings have since relocated to Berhampur. Around 10:30 PM on Sunday, a group of villagers heading to a nearby temple heard distressing screams from Dillip’s house. They immediately alerted his elder brother, Harischandra Patra.

Upon reaching the spot, Harischandra found Dillip lying in a pool of blood inside the house. He promptly informed the local police, following which a team from Golanthara Police arrived and shifted the critically injured man to SCB Medical College and Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Sources said Dillip had suffered multiple deep injuries, including on his head and hands, indicating a gruesome attack.

The motive behind the murder remains unclear. However, initial investigations suggest a possible business rivalry.
Police have launched a detailed probe and are exploring multiple angles to ascertain the reason and identify those responsible.
