Baripada: All government schools in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district will remain closed on Thursday in view of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) red warning for extremely heavy rainfall.

As per the decision, all government schools in Mayurbhanj will remain closed for the day as a precautionary measure and to ensure the safety of students.

Private schools have also been directed to cancel classes after 10 am in view of the adverse weather conditions.

The heavy rainfall warning comes amid the formation of a low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. The weather system is expected to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of Odisha.

The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in Mayurbhanj and neighbouring districts.
