Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is likely to set in over Kerala around May 26, said the IMD on Sunday.
The monsoon had reached parts of the Andaman Sea, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, southeast Bay of Bengal and some areas of the Arabian Sea on Saturday.
“Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of southeast Arabian Sea, southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Andaman Islands and Andaman Sea, and some parts of eastcentral Bay of Bengal during next 2-3 days,” said the IMD in its weather bulletin.
The southwest monsoon is likely to set in over Kerala on May 26 with a model error of +/- 4 days, it added.
As per the IMD prediction, several places in Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts in Odisha may witness thunderstorms till May 24.
“The maximum temperature or day temperature across Odisha may rise by 2 to 3 Degree Celsius during the next 3/4 days,” said the IMD regional centre here today.
Some places in Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Balangir, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Deogarh and Kandhamal districts witnessed light to moderate rain or thunderstorms during last 24 hours. Hailstorms were also reported from some places in Raighar block of Nabarangpur during the period, it added.
