Kendrapada: A sand mafia group allegedly attempted to attack the Additional Tahsildar of Rajnagar in Odisha's Kendrapada district after intercepting his official vehicle during an enforcement drive against illegal sand transportation today.

According to reports, Rajnagar Additional Tahsildar Ashish Kumar Jena was carrying out a routine enforcement operation when he tried to stop a Hyva truck transporting sand illegally. However, the truck driver ignored the official and sped away.

As the enforcement team chased the truck, a car, belonging to members of the sand mafia, blocked the official vehicle of the Additional Tahsildar. After the vehicle came to a halt, the occupants of the car got out and attempted to assault the official in the presence of police personnel.

Following the incident, Jena lodged a written complaint at Rajnagar Police Station.

Police have arrested a person allegedly involved in the attack attempt. However, the Hyva truck carrying the sand managed to escape.

Efforts were on by the police to trace the truck and its driver.
