Angul: A motorcyclist was burnt alive while his co-rider sustained critical injuries in a road accident on National Highway-149 near Samakoi Bridge under Samal police limits in Odisha's Angul district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Deepak Pradhan of the Turang area.

According to reports, the two were riding a motorcycle from Khamar towards Pitiri when an unidentified vehicle allegedly hit the two-wheeler. The impact was so severe that the motorcycle was dragged for nearly 200 metres.

While the pillion rider was thrown onto the road, the rider remained trapped with the motorcycle, which caught fire following the collision. He was burnt alive in the incident and died on the spot.

After receiving information about the accident, Samal police reached the spot and rescued the injured youth. He was first taken to Khamar Community Health Centre and later shifted to Angul District Headquarters Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

Police have launched an investigation to identify the vehicle involved in the accident.
