Bhubaneswar: An 18-year-old youth, who had sustained injuries in a freak mishap yesterday, died after he was allegedly administered a wrong injection at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Odisha’s Dhenkanal today.

The deceased has been identified as Alok Samal of Malapura village in Marthapur panchayat under Bhuban police limits in Dhenkanal.

As per reports, Samal sustained injuries in his lower abdomen due to a fall yesterday evening. He was immediately rushed to the Dhenkanal DHH.

However, the injured youth was discharged from the DHH after primary treatment. However, he was readmitted to the DHH as his condition remained critical, reports said.

Samal’s health deteriorated further after a nurse of the DHH administered an injection to him today morning.

Despite repeated requests by Samal’s family members, the authorities of the DHH did not take prompt steps to refer him to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The 18-year-old eventually succumbed to his injuries at the DHH. His family members, meanwhile, blamed wrong injection and medical negligence for his death.
