Bhadrak: In a shameful incident, a 58 year-old man was arrested on charges of impregnating a minor girl in Chandbali in Odisha's Bhadrak district.

The accused, identified as Debendra Nayak - a resident of Thukura village under Tentulidihi Panchayat - was held after the girl shared the ordeal with her family. The 15 year-old girl, who belongs to the same village, was reportedly found seven months pregnant. 

Accused exploited her over several months

As per preliminary reports, the girl started complaining of persistent abdominal pain. Upon being taken to a hospital for a medical examination, doctors confirmed that she was seven months pregnant. Following the medical revelation, the victim disclosed her ordeal to her family. She shared that the accused lured her with false promises and exploited her over several months.

Her family subsequently reached out to Chandbali police and filed a formal complaint acting on which an investigation was immediately initiated and the accused nabbed. Official sources informed that a case has been registered. The accused has been taken into custody and all actions will be taken as per the legal procedure, they said. 

The incident has once again highlighted the increasingly disturbing pattern of children being abused and lack of community awareness to prevent such recurring tragedies.
