Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA) of Odisha has enforced a strict ban on commercial vehicles older than 10 years registered in other states, in a move aimed at improving road safety and reducing pollution.

The decision, taken during the 301st STA meeting on July 19, 2023, is now being implemented across the state. All Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) have been directed to ensure strict compliance.

As per the new directive, commercial vehicles exceeding the 10-year age limit and registered outside Odisha will not be allowed to operate within the state. Authorities have also been instructed not to issue any new permits to such vehicles.

In addition, RTOs and Assistant RTOs have been barred from processing ownership transfers, address changes, or collecting any form of transport tax for such vehicles.

The measure is expected to enhance road safety standards, phase out unfit vehicles from roads, and curb pollution caused by older commercial vehicles.
