Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has issued a clarification regarding the refill of 5 kg LPG cylinders, easing concerns among students and labourers.

Earlier, the department had indicated restrictions on the refill of the small LPG cylinders due to fears of supply disruption linked to the ongoing Iran war. The announcement triggered concerns, particularly among students living in hostels or rented accommodations and daily wage workers who depend on smaller cylinders for cooking.

In its latest clarification, the department stated that there is no complete ban on the refill of 5 kg LPG cylinders. Eligible individuals, including students and labourers, can refill these cylinders by showing valid identity proof.

The 5 kg LPG cylinders supplied by oil marketing companies will continue to be available for refill. Consumers who have completed e-KYC can also buy those cylinders by presenting their identification documents.

The department emphasised that enforcement actions will continue in cases involving illegal cylinders and black marketing. Authorities will continue monitoring such activities to ensure fair distribution and prevent misuse.

The clarification is expected to bring relief to many consumers who rely on 5 kg cylinders for their daily cooking needs.
