Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has expedited process for the six-laning of Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway (NH).

A high-level meeting, chaired by Works Department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, today discussed various issues with regard to the road widening project.

As per the blueprint, the NH-316 (67 km), connecting Bhubaneswar and Puri, will be widened to six-lane from the existing four-lane. Besides, there will be two-lane service road on both sides of the NH.

A portion of the NH, from Saptasati Square to Lingipur Square (11 km), will be an elevated corridor with three-lane service road on both sides. The proposed elevated corridor is likely to play a key role in reducing traffic congestion in the capital city, said the Works Department.

A few flyovers and vehicle underpasses (VUPs) will be constructed as part of the NH widening project.

In addition to this, the authorities will make the necessary arrangements for wayside amenities for the passengers and tourists. There is also a proposal for a special utility corridor along the NH for electricity, telephone, internet, water and cooking gas services.
