Talcher: After a joyride malfunctioned during the ongoing Hingula Yatra, at least four persons, including three women, were injured on Sunday evening, raising serious concerns over safety measures at the fair.

With large crowds due to the Sunday holiday, both the festival and amusement rides were heavily packed. The incident occurred when a joyride named ‘Dragon Doli’ broke down at a height of around 10 feet, leaving four people injured. All the injured, including three women, have been admitted to the Pabitra Mohan Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

The operators of the ride, which reportedly did not have the required licence, are absconding.

Following the mishap, the local administration swung into action and banned all joyrides and fun rides at the fair.

A visitor alleged the incident could have been avoided had the administration enforced proper safety guidelines for ride operators, adding public safety had been neglected.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
