Bhubaneswar: A special POCSO court in Odisha’s Khurda district has sentenced a man to five years of imprisonment for rape attempt on his minor daughter.

The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on convict Bishnu Mahapatra of Balugaon area.

As per the case records, Mahapatra had entered into a marital relationship with his widowed sister-in-law following the demise of his elder brother some years ago.

He had allegedly made a rape attempt on his 13-year-old foster daughter two years ago. The victim’s mother had lodged a complaint in this regard with Balugaon police.

On the basis of the complaint, the cops had registered a case and launched a probe into the incident.

The court convicted Mahapatra after examining the witnesses and evidence gathered by the police during the investigation.
