Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance today arrested a Livestock Inspector in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on charges of accepting Rs 80,000 as bribe from a beneficiary of the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana.
Accused Prafulla Haldar, the Livestock Inspector of Raighar, had allegedly sought Rs 80,000 as bribe from the beneficiary to release the subsidy amount under the scheme.
Haldar had threatened to block the subsidy amount if the beneficiary does not pay the bribe.
The victim had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Odisha Vigilance. Subsequently, a trap was laid and the Livestock Inspector was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the victim.
The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused and seized, said the Odisha Vigilance.
The Vigilance sleuths arrested the accused after registering a case against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018.
Folding the trap, simultaneous searches were carried out at two locations linked to the accused to unearth any disproportionate assets (DA).
During the searches, the Vigilance officials recovered Rs 8.24 lakh in cash from Haldar’s residence at Raighar. Further investigation on the matter is underway, said the Vigilance Department.
