Bhubaneswar: A 43-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in Odisha’s Baleshwar district on Wednesday after he suffered heavy losses in online trading.

The deceased has been identified as Prabhat Ranjan Padhi, a resident of Arad Bazar in Balasore. He had been staying in a rented house in Soro area for past one year.

As per reports, Padhi had reportedly incurred substantial losses through online trading and was under considerable financial pressure due to mounting loans. He had allegedly been receiving repeated phone calls from people seeking repayment, which reportedly left him under mental distress.

Two days ago, Padhi had reportedly taken his wife and children to Balasore and left them there before returning to stay alone at his rented accommodation in Soro.

Padhi reportedly broke down while speaking to his family over phone on Wednesday morning. However, when family members tried to contact him later in the day, he did not answer their calls.

Worried by his prolonged silence, family members reached his rented house in Soro and broke open the lock. They allegedly found Padhi hanging from the ceiling fan in the bedroom.

Padhi’s family members rescued him and rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.
