Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu today inaugurated several key projects of the Commerce & Transport Department in Odisha.

The President inaugurated the projects in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during an event at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district.

Murmu inaugurated two truck terminals at Kalahandi and Girisola (Ganjam), Automated Driving Test Systems (ADTS) at Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, and Automated Testing Stations (ATS) at nine locations across the state.

Besides, the Intelligent Enforcement Management System (IEMS) was made operational on four major road corridors: Sambalpur–Rourkela, Manguli–Sambalpur, Berhampur–Taptapani, and Berhampur–Bhanjanagar.

“Two state-of-the-art truck terminals were inaugurated at Kalahandi and Girisola in Ganjam district to address the issue of illegal parking on highways and provide comfortable rest facilities to drivers undertaking long-distance journeys,” said the Commerce & Transport Department.

Further, to ensure complete transparency and eliminate human intervention in the driving licence testing process, Automated Driving Test Systems (ADTS) were launched at Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, it added.

“To introduce advanced technological solutions in vehicle fitness testing, Automated Testing Stations (ATS) have been inaugurated at nine key locations across the state, namely: Kendrapara, Nayagarh, Balasore, Boudh, Bhubaneswar, Mayurbhanj, Rourkela, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh,” stated the Department.

With the objective of reducing road accidents and strengthening enforcement against reckless driving through the use of advanced technology, the Intelligent Enforcement Management System (IEMS) has been implemented on four major road corridors in the state. These corridors are: Sambalpur – Rourkela, Manguli – Sambalpur, Berhampur – Taptapani, and Berhampur – Bhanjanagar.

“The implementation of IEMS on these corridors is expected to significantly enhance and strengthen the road safety framework of the state,” added the Department.
