Bhubaneswar: The student union elections at Vyasanagar Autonomous College in Odisha’s Jajpur district have been postponed following a bomb hurling incident on the campus.
The college authorities on Thursday issued a notification in this regard. As per the notification, the college will remain closed till further orders.
The authorities, meanwhile, have asked the boarders of different hostels to vacate the premises by tomorrow morning.
“As decided in the meeting of the Election Committee and the Academic Committee, the college shall remain closed with effect from 1 pm on October 8 till further notice and students’ union election-2026 in the college is postponed. The boarders in different hostels of the college are hereby directed to vacate the hostels by the morning of October 9,” read the notification.
As per the scheduled announced by the Higher Education Department, the college was supposed to hold the students’ union polls on October 15.
Some unidentified miscreants hurled crude bombs targeting the principal’s chamber and the boys’ hostel of the college soon after the authorities issued a notification for the students’ union polls on Wednesday.
The incident triggered panic among the hostel boarders. The situation turned further tense after two groups of students blamed each other for orchestrating the bomb hurling incident.
