Bhubaneswar: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will begin across Odisha from Saturday and continue till June 28, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R. S. Gopalan said today.

Addressing a press conference, the CEO said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will undertake a door-to-door verification drive across the state as part of the revision process. BLOs have already been trained for the exercise.

According to the Election Commission's plan, BLOs will visit households to verify voter details and rectify discrepancies in electoral records. A total of 45,255 BLOs have been deployed for the exercise. In addition, 31,026 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) have also been appointed to assist in the process.

The CEO said BLOs will conduct household visits during the morning hours and remain available at polling booths every day from 3 pm to 5 pm to assist voters.

As part of the preparatory work, voter mapping for nearly 95 per cent of the electorate has already been completed. Around 3.16 crore voters have been mapped so far. During the mapping process, authorities identified logical errors in about 17 per cent of the records.

The errors mainly relate to incorrect age details, spelling mistakes in names and inaccuracies in fathers' names. These discrepancies will be corrected during the door-to-door verification drive, Gopalan said.

Mapped voters will be required to provide their photographs and signatures during the verification process. Voters who wish to update their photographs will also be allowed to submit new ones.

The final electoral roll will be published on September 6, 2026.
