Rourkela: A man allegedly jumped into the Brahmani River from the Brahmani New Bridge in Rourkela following a family dispute on Friday morning. He has been missing since the incident.
The incident took place at around 8 am. Cops from Brahmani Tarang police station and fire services personnel launched a search operation after receiving information about the incident.
The missing man has been identified as Shivram Sahu, a transport businessman from Uditnagar. According to reports, a dispute had broken out in his family earlier in the morning over an issue.
Shivram later called a woman known to him from Plantsite to meet him. After she reached his residence, the two spoke for some time. He then took her in his car towards the Vedvyas TCI Square.
At the location, Shivram allegedly consumed some medicines inside the car in front of the woman. She reportedly tried to stop him and persuaded him not to take any such step, but he did not listen.
He then drove towards the Brahmani New Bridge with the woman in the car. While she was sitting in the rear seat, Shivram suddenly got out of the vehicle and jumped into the river.
The woman raised an alarm and called for help. Some motorists passing through the bridge informed the police and fire services about the incident.
Police have started an investigation into the incident, while fire services personnel are continuing efforts to locate Shivram in the river.
